2006 Healthy Schools Conference: Delivering Every Child Matters, A Call to Action

On 30th March 2006, Kent County Council and NHS in Kent jointly hosted the Healthy Schools conference.

At this conference speakers and delegates celebrated the impressive progress made by schools and clusters over the last year and considered how to build on these achievements further.

Aimed at officers from across education, health and social services. Graham Badman, Managing Director Children, Families and Education and Quentin Sandifer, Executive Director of Public Health, welcomed delegates and reinforced the need to work together to ensure we are focused on how best to meet the needs of children and young people across the county.

Education and health share school and health improvement objectives for children and young people, which can only be achieved by working together. Improving life chances for children and young people, ensuring equality of provision and supporting those most at risk are at the heart of the Healthy Schools programme which is now aligned with the five outcomes of Every Child Matters and the revised Ofsted framework.

The conference theme was Delivering Every Child Matters and was part of the drive to support and enable every school in the county to become a Healthy School by 2009. This Kent wide priority is highlighted in the Local Area Agreement and embedded in Cluster and Consortia Plans.

There have been some significant changes introduced to the national and local programmes during Autumn 2005 and the conference was an important opportunity to bring all our key partners up to date. In addition young people and headteachers talked to delegates about the value being involved in the programme and highlighted the real benefits of adopting this approach.
