Animating Thanet’s pupils to aspire to success.

Wednesday 13 January saw the launch of ‘Getting Animated for Work’ at Upton Junior School.  The launch extended an invitation to all primary pupils to transform themselves into animation characters, representing what they would look like in their dream jobs. In doing so they were asked to consider what skills and qualifications they will need to make their dreams a reality. This is part of a competition being run by Kent County Council and Animate & Create. Click here for press release.

Placing Literacy in a new League

An exciting education project, using football to teach literacy and numeracy, is already showing great results in Thanet.
Charlton Athletic FC, through the Charlton Athletic Community Trust and Kent County Council are funding a qualified teacher to work in Thanet primary schools on the “Kick into Education” project.
The aim is to use a range of football-based curriculum resources and other activities to engage and motivate the children. 

SATs results have already shown a marked improvement.

Thanet Gateway Plus

Thanet's Gateway Plus works with around 35 partners to  deliver services in Margate either on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis aiming to refer customers between partner organisations (click for information) as necessary, and to address all of their needs in the one visit.

New Sports Centre in Thanet

The Ursuline Sports College & the Generation Sports Team are proud to announce that the Thanet Sports & Coaching Centre is now open.

The centre encourages children of all abilities to come and engage in a variety of sports sessions whether it be learning new skills or developing old ones.

  • The centre prides itself on offering unique services, which include
  • A junior coaching program covering a range of sports using qualifed, insured and CRB checked staff.
  • Specialised, sport and activity, holiday courses.
  • The ability for a group to hire a space and a coach.
  • The use of a great facility at a competitive price and its strong approach to safeguarding its users.

The centre aims to provide the community with sporting opportunities including coaching sessions, junior and adult fun fitness sessions, coaching qualifications, club use and private hire.

The centre is available for public use from 5pm-10pm weekdays during term time, from 9am-10pm at weekends and from 9am-10pm during school holidays. The centre is available for full hall and half hall hire.

New Multi-agency Hub for Thanet

The DCSF has just announced that Kent has been successful in getting £9,440,000 for three multi-agency specialist hubs for disabled children / vulnerable children. These will be in Thanet, Swale and Maidstone. and similar to the one being developed in Ashford as part of the reprovision of Jubilee House.
  

The Thanet scheme will involve a new build. It will replace the NHS Kingfisher child development centre and create a 0-19 multi-agency assessment and resource centre. The scheme will also enable staff working with vulnerable children to be co-located on the same site, with space for primary care services. The scheme will be located on the Hartsdown Secondary School site and will be linked to the KCC Building Schools for the Future scheme
