The Global Dimension in Schools
The revised National Curriculum and the December 2004 DCSF Paper Putting the World into World-class Education made it clear that the content of what is taught in schools needs to be informed by international and global matters. Thus, we need to be equipping our children, young people and adults for life in a global society and work in a global economy. The Global Dimension can make a key contribution to raising standards in Kent and should be integrated into the whole curriculum. Importantly, promoting the Global Dimension in your school can help you access international professional development opportunities and new resources, and you may be eligible for European funding for your projects.
Benefits to schools include: 1. The Global Dimension enriches the ethos and can raise the profile of your school 2. It raises standards and enhances the curriculum. It combines activities from across the curriculum 3. It offers increased opportunities for staff development and encourages best practice 4. International links encourage the whole school community to become aware of cultural diversity 5. The whole school community learns to become active citizens, developing skills and attitudes which will enable them to integrate into a multicultural society 6. The whole school community develops an awareness of far-reaching issues, including caring for the environment and international interdependence 7. Very importantly, promoting the Global Dimension in your school can help you access international professional development opportunities and new resources, and you may be eligible for European funding for your projects | |
