Policy, Strategies & GuidanceSchool Term Dates |
Please note that schools need to approve holidays during term time - approval of such requests should not be taken for granted. The testing times for national curriculum assessments (Key Stage One and Two) and GCSE / A Levels and mock examinations also need to be taken into account - pupils should not be absent during these tests.
Kent County Council has now determined the term dates for the school years 2009/10, 2010/11, 2011/12 following consultation with schools, education forums, trade unions, parents and governors' representatives.
The LEA sets the term dates for all community, community special and voluntary controlled schools. Governing bodies of foundation and voluntary aided schools are responsible for setting their own term dates. However, we hope all schools will continue to work within this common calendar.
Staff Training Days
Please note: Schools determine the days when schools are closed for staff training days. Parents/carers are therefore advised to confirm the actual term dates with their child's/children's school(s).
Most exam dates are not set more than a year in advance, but they do tend to follow the same pattern every year. Contact your child's school to confirm exact dates.
The Kent Test (eleven-plus) dates for 2010 have not been set yet, but are likely to be around the same time as the 2009 dates. We will publish the new dates as soon as they are set.
Key Stage 1 tests are sat during May every year. Your child's school will be able to tell you exactly when.
Key Stage 2 tests are currently expected to be 10 – 13 May 2010.
A levels and GCSE exams are expected to take place between 6 May and 30 June. A-level results are published on 19 August 2010 and GCSE results on 23 August 2010.
2011/12 Term Dates - UPDATE
The Government has recently announced that changes will be made in 2012 to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. This will involve moving the late May Bank Holiday to Monday, 4 June and adding an extra Bank holiday on Tuesday, 5 June. Kent County Council and all other local authorities are therefore going to need to consult on changes to the school term dates for 2011/12 shortly, which is likely to mean proposals to shift the school holiday back from the week beginning 28 May 2012 to the following week - week beginning 4 June 2012.
The consultation will take place as soon as the DCSF confirms that it has undertaken consultations with the Exam Boards on rescheduling exam dates and that a decision has been made to make Regulations to allow the length of the school year to be reduced by one day for pupils to accommodate the additional Bank Holiday.
A revised 2011/12 calendar will be published on this page as soon as consultation on the changes commences.
