Leadership & Management Professional Development Programme

We are pleased to inform of a new training programme that has been specifically developed by the Advisory Service Kent to support the leaders and managers of early years and childcare settings in Kent. The 5 day programme, offered over a 5 week cycle, is being delivered for the first time in January 2008 across 6 locations in the county.

Aim: To raise the quality of leadership & management in early years and childcare settings 

Learning Outcomes:

  • To develop self awareness and competencies in themselves as leaders and managers
  • To understand, evaluate and demonstrate the key skills which will influence and inform the leading of learning and care
  • To interpret qualitative and quantitative data that underpins the theories and concepts of high quality learning and teaching
  • To understand and evaluate the key skills and tools to support the leadership and management of high quality learning and teaching
  • To understand the principles and practice of managing change through building team capacity
  • To understand the importance of self-evaluation in managing improvement by demonstrating sound judgement, clarity of action planning and reflective practice  

Day One:

  • Session 1 Reflective Diary
  • Session 2 Understanding ourselves as leaders and managers
  • Session 3 Emotional intelligence

Day Two:

  • Session 1 Organisation and influencing people leading, learning and care
  • Session 2 Modelling and monitoring
  • Session 3 Dialogue

Day Three:

  • Session 1 What is quality?
  • Session 2 Research
  • Session 3 Improve outcomes for children

Day Four:

  • Session 1 Monitoring & evaluation and observation
  • Session 2 Planning process and communication
  • Session 3 Policies and clarity of roles and responsibilities

Day Five:

  • Session 1 Self evaluation and identifying the need for change
  • Session 2 Setting improvement planning
  • Session 3 Process of change and team building

We are working closely with Canterbury Christ Church University to accredit the programme, this will give delegates the opportunity of gaining 20 credits towards an Early Years Foundation Degree.

Your Early Years Advisory Teacher or Early Years Foundation Stage Consultant will be able to answer any of your questions about the programme.

Graduate Leader Fund

The Graduate Leader Fund is the Government's main investment in improving the quality of the early year's workforce and provides local authorities with a long term funding commitment. It is central to raising standards and will help imbed the culture of continuous quality improvement that is necessary to meet the Childcare Act duty to improve outcomes for all young children and reduce inequalities between them.

The Graduate Leader Fund supersedes the Transformation Fund and focuses specifically on securing graduate early years professionals in the private, voluntary or independent sector.

With the Graduate Leader Fund, there are funding incentives to support individuals in full day care settings gain Early Years Professional Status. Eligible and criteria applies. Funding is also available for Early Years Foundation Degrees.

Early Years Qualifications - Early Years and Child Care

Funding is available for qualification training Levels 1 - 4.
