Training Programme

KSCB provides training and development for staff to help them safeguard and promote the welfare of children effectively. This includes being able to recognise when a child may require safeguarding, and knowing what to do in response to concerns about the welfare of a child. Practitioners and managers must also be able to work effectively with others, both within their own agency and across organisational boundaries. This is best achieved by a combination of single-agency and inter-agency training.

We run an annual multi-agency training programme, which includes a range of courses to enable professionals to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.

Please note that further training courses for the following year are yet to be confirmed and posted on this website.

How to apply for a place on our courses

It is the responsibility of the individual agency to prioritise their staff for places on training courses. Advice about suitability can be sought via the KSCB administrator (see below for contact details). Places are allocated to reflect the multi-agency framework for the training and not on a first come first served basis. The KSCB tries to ensure that all agencies are represented where possible.

If you wish to apply for a training course download one of the training application forms below. It is important that you save the form onto your computer before editing the document electronically otherwise changes you make will not be stored.

Please return completed registration forms to: KSCB Training Administrator, Room 2.60, Sessions House, County Hall, Maidstone, Kent, ME14 1XQ or Fax to 01622 694114. Application forms can be sent via email to rachel.tappenden@kent.gov.uk however it is essential that they are forwarded via the applicants line manager.

If you require more information, please contact the KSCB Training Administrator on 01622 221734.

Successful applicants will receive joining instructions at least three weeks prior to the course. If these do not arrive course applicants must take responsibility for ensuring that they have been allocated a place.

Cancellation Policy

Please inform the Training Administrator with as much notice as possible if an applicant is unable to attend. Participants and/or their managers will be asked to identify a ‘reserve’ person within their work place to attend should the original applicant be unable to do so. Cancellation without six weeks notice will incur a charge of £80 per day.

Suitability of Courses

Applicants, in consultation with their line managers, should decide if a particular course meets their own professional and individual child safeguarding training and development needs.

Certification

Course participants who attend for the whole of a training course will receive a certificate of attendance.

Course Evaluation

All training undertaken on behalf of the KSCB shall be evaluated and monitored to ensure that it is delivered to a consistently high standard and that it meets the agreed learning outcomes. Course participants will be asked to complete the training evaluation form in order to inform the development of each course. A random selection of participants and their managers will also be sent a follow-up evaluation form three months later. Trainers and Facilitators are also independently assessed and given the opportunity to feed back after training courses.
